Colonels Head to JSU For Thursday Night Showdown

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball team will go on the road to face Jacksonville State in an OVC East showdown on Thursday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.

- EKU (8-14, 1-6 OVC) will look to get back on track after a pair of road losses at in-state rivals Murray State and Morehead State last week.
 
- Asante Gist was voted OVC Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday. It is the fifth time this season he has earned OVC Freshman of the Week honors. No other freshman has won it more than twice.
 
- Gist averaged 21.0 points-per-game and 4.0 assists-per-game last week. He poured in a career-high 26 points at Murray State on Thursday, before dropping a team-best 16 points at Morehead State on Saturday.
 
- Junior forward Zach Charles nearly averaged a double-double last week (9.0 points-per-game, 9.5 rebounds-per-game). He notched his second double-double of the year at Murray State (12 points, 12 rebounds), before scoring six points and grabbing a team-best seven boards at Morehead State.
 
- Sophomore forward Nick Mayo averaged 16.5 points-per-game last week. Mayo has scored in double figures in every game this season, and he ranks fifth in the OVC in scoring (17.3 points-per-game).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
- Jacksonville State (13-9, 5-2 OVC) has won four of its last five games, including an 86-79 win at Tennessee State on Saturday. The Gamecocks sit in second place in the OVC East.
 
- JSU is led by Malcolm Drumwright, who is averaging 12.9 points-per-game and 4.0 assists-per-game.
 
- This is the 27th meeting between EKU and Jacksonville State. EKU leads the all-time series, 18-8, and has won three straight over JSU, including a season sweep of the Gamecocks last season.
 
- EKU ran away from Jacksonville State, 76-54, the last time the Colonels visited Pete Mathews Coliseum on February 25, 2016.
