Colonels Head South for Ole Miss Classic

OXFORD, Miss.
– The Eastern Kentucky University softball team heads south to Oxford, Mississippi this weekend to play five games in the Ole Miss Classic. This will begin a six-game swing in the state.  
 
EKU is coming off of a mid-week loss at Mid-American Conference (MAC) foe Miami (Ohio). In the loss freshman Mia Sanchez finished 2-for-4.
 
The Colonels (6-10) will open play on Friday against Oklahoma State at 11 a.m. before taking on the University of Mississippi at 6:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
 
Saturday will also feature a pair of games, also beginning at 11 a.m., against Jackson State. Game two for the day will begin at 1:30 p.m. against Bowling Green.
 
A second game against Oklahoma State will cap the weekend for Eastern, first pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
 
AT THE PLATE
-Sophomore Rachel Minogue leads the Colonels at the dish with a .467 batting average. The number is the
second-best in the conference and 42nd in the NCAA. The Corona, California native is also second in the conference in on-base percentage (.549). She has notched 21 hits over 45 at bats to include five doubles and three homers.
-Freshman Mia Sanchez has the second-best batting average for EKU at .333. Sanchez has tallied 17 hits
and 11 runs, she is also 6-of-7 in stolen bases.
-Third baseman Johnkyria Alston is third in the league and 46th in the NCAA in slugging percentage (.825), sixth in RBI (17) and third in home runs (5). The junior also has 14 hits and six doubles.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
-Freshman Mollie Paulick leads the pitching staff with a 1.05 earned run average, the number is third  best in
the conference and 47th best in the NCAA. The Centerville, Ohio native has struck out 51 batters at the plate, placing her fourth in the conference.
-Chantilly, Virginia native Alex Sallberg is tossing a 1.96 ERA from the circle. She has struck out 31
batters.
 
 
THE OPPONENTS
-Oklahoma State comes into the weekend with a 13-9 mark, Mississippi comes in toting only two losses (17-2), Jackson State stands at 3-11, while Bowling Green comes in nearly even with a 9-10 mark.
