RICHMOND, Ky. – Turnovers doomed the women's basketball team in a 66-52 loss to Southeast Missouri on Thursday at McBrayer Arena.

The Colonels (8-18, 5-12 OVC) turned the ball over 21 times and allowed the Redhawks 27 points off of turnovers. SEMO (14-15, 9-8 OVC) turned the ball over only 11 times and held Eastern to 10 points off of turnovers.

Eastern was led by
Abby Wright's game-high 18 points, with
Bria Bass adding on 12 of her own.
A'Queen Hayes contributed 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

EKU out-rebounded Southeast 38-31.

Eastern opened the game on a 6-0 run, but SEMO battled back quickly and trailed the Colonels 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Redhawks wasted no time when play resumed, starting the second quarter with an 11-2 run to take a 22-16 lead with five minutes left. SEMO maintained tempo, putting EKU in a 27-23 hole going into the locker room that it couldn't come out of.

EKU drew within six points after a triple from the left wing from Wright with 5:56 remaining in the third quarter. Kaley Leyhue answered with back-to-back trifectas to put the Redhawks back ahead by double-digits.

Deja Jones and Iyanna McCurdy scored 13 points apiece for the Redhawks, while Ashton Luttrull contributed nine points. Southeast Missouri went 10-for-12 from the free throw line on the night.

The Colonels will be back in action on Saturday when they take on in-state rival Morehead State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. ET.
