Basketball Teams Play At Morehead State On Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky men's and women's basketball teams will conclude the regular season at rival Morehead State on Saturday.
 
Tip-off for the men's game is set for 2 p.m.  The women's game is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.

The EKU men's team is still alive for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament which will be played next week in Evansville.

EKU is 8-18 overall and 5-12 in OVC games.
 
The Colonels were eliminated from OVC Tournament contention with a 66-52 loss on Thursday to visiting Southeast Missouri State.
 
Abby Wright had a game-best 18 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the loss to Southeast Missouri.
 
For the eighth time this season, Hayes was chosen as the OVC Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday.  Hayes averaged 18 points and five rebounds in games against Belmont and Tennessee State.  She also contributed 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
 
EKU leads the all-time series 51-43.  The Colonels are 17-25 against the Eagles in Morehead.  Eastern Kentucky has won 11 of the last 13 meetings between the two teams, including a 59-56 win in Richmond on Feb. 10.
 
EKU has turned the ball over 41 times in its last two games.
 
Wright is 12th in the OVC in scoring (14.1 ppg), 19th in rebounding (5.7/g), 14th in free throw shooting (76.4 percent), 10th in three-point shooting percentage (36.5 percent), 10th in three-pointers made (1.7/g), ninth in offensive rebounds (2.4/g) and 15th in minutes played (32.5/g).
 
When the two teams met in Richmond on Feb. 10, Freshman Bria Bass posted her second double-double in as many games as EKU took down MSU, 59-56.  Eastern used a 14-3 run late in the third quarter to take 41-38 lead with 39 seconds remaining in the period.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Morehead State has won two of its last three games, since suffering a 59-56 loss at EKU.  The Eagles are coming off an 88-75 victory at home against Tennessee-Martin.
 
Miranda Crockett, a 5-foot-8 junior guard, leads the team in scoring (14.9 ppg).  She has hit 48 percent of her shots from the field, but has not attempted a three-pointer.  Newcomer Tierra McGowan, a 6-foot-3 center, leads the team with 12.2 rebounds per game to go along with 12.7 points per contest, but hasn't played since Jan. 13.
 
As a team, Morehead State averages 73 points per game and allows 66.  The Eagles shoot just 27 percent from three-point range, but out-rebound their opponents by 5.0 boards per game.
 
Eriel McKee had a game-best 26 points in the win over UT Martin.  Brooke Todd finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.  Crockett had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.

EKU (11-19, 5-12 OVC) is battling SIUE (9-19, 5-12 OVC) for the eighth and final spot in the OVC Tournament. If EKU wins on Saturday and SIUE loses, the Colonels are headed to Evansville.
 
EKU overcame 16 Southeast Missouri three-pointers and a 15-point first-half deficit to defeat the Redhawks, 91-88, on Thursday night at McBrayer Arena.
 
On Senior Night, senior Dillon Avare played the hero vs. SEMO, blocking his first career shot with 11 seconds left to seal the victory.
 
Junior Nick Mayo had 25 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal vs. SEMO. He is averaging 23.3 points-per-game over EKU's last eight games.
 
Freshman JacQuess Hobbs had 16 points, four assists, three steals and no turnovers in the win over SEMO. Hobbs ranks third in the OVC in assist-turnover ratio (2.7) during conference play.
 
Sophomore DeAndre Dishman scored his 500th career point vs. Southeast Missouri on Thursday.
 
The Colonels have now won three of their last four games.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Morehead State (7-21, 3-14 OVC) sits in last place in the OVC, but the Eagles defeated UT Martin, 70-53, on Thursday.
 
Jordan Walker leads a balanced MSU scoring attack at 11.8 points-per-game.
 
This is the 190th all-time meeting between EKU and Morehead State. The Colonels lead the series, 109-80, and snapped a four-game losing streak to the Eagles with a 75-73 win at McBrayer Arena on February 3.
 
UP NEXT
If EKU gets the No. 8 seed in the OVC Tournament, the Colonels will play the No. 5 seed on Wednesday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
