Men's And Women's Basketball Teams Host UT Martin Thursday

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern's men's and women's basketball teams will host Tennessee-Martin on Thursday at McBrayer Arena.
 
Tip-off for the women's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.  The men's game will begin at 7 p.m.

EKU is 7-14 overall and 4-8 in OVC games.
 
A'Queen Hayes averaged a double-double in two games and was chosen as the adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday.  Hayes averaged 17.5 points and 12 rebounds in games against Belmont and Tennessee State.  She also contributed 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game.
 
Hayes has posted a double-double in each of the past three games and seven times in the last 10 games.
 
EKU leads the all-time series 31-22.  However, Tennessee-Martin has won 12 of the previous 13 meetings.  The Colonels are 17-6 against the Skyhawks in Richmond, including a 70-61 victory the last time the teams played in McBrayer Arena on Jan. 7, 2016.
 
Through 21 games this season, Eastern Kentucky has out-rebounded its opponent 15 times.  The Colonels are fourth in the OVC in rebounding margin (+3.4 per game).
 
Hayes is seventh in the OVC in scoring (15.6 ppg), third in rebounding (8.8 rpg), 11th in assists (3.1 apg), ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1), 12th in steals (1.6 spg), first in minutes played (36.0/g), second in offensive rebounds (3.5/g) and seventh in defensive rebounds (5.2/g).
 
Eastern Kentucky is fourth in the OVC in scoring defense (63.0 ppg), third in rebounding defense (34.7 rpg), fourth in rebounding margin (+3.4), fifth in blocks (3.4/g), fifth in rebounding offense (38.1 rpg), and fifth in field goal percentage defense (40.0 percent).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
UT Martin (12-12, 8-4 OVC) is riding a four game winning streak and has gone 7-2 since starting OVC play with one win in its first three games.
 
On Saturday, UTM trailed by as many as 18 points in the first quarter before dominating Murray State in the final three quarters of play to earn an 85-67 victory.  Sophomore guard Kendall Spray led all scorers with 34 points while knocking down eight three-pointers.  Freshman Chelsey Perry had 17 points while both Emanye Robertson and Janekia Mason tallied 12 points each.
 
Spray leads the team this season with an average of 17.9 points per game.  Robertson is second at 11.8 points per contest.  Perry contributes a team-best 5.7 rebounds to go along with 10 points per game.
 
As a team, the Skyhawks average 73 points and allow 67.  UT Martin shoots 44 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range, both rank second in the conference.  However, UTM has been out-rebounded by 3.3 per game.

EKU (8-17, 2-10 OVC) fell to Tennessee State, 73-60, last Saturday at McBrayer.
 
Nick Mayo led EKU with 21 points vs. Tennessee State last Saturday. The junior enters Thursday nine points shy of Demarkus Doss (No. 12/ 1,442) and 27 points shy of Jack Adams (No. 11 / 1,460) on EKU's all-time scoring list.

Mayo also enters Thursday four blocks shy of tying the EKU career blocks record (115).
 
Mayo knocked down a season-best three three-pointers vs. TSU. He is now 4-of-5 from deep in EKU's last two games and he is shooting 43.8% from deep this season.
 
Senior Zach Charles knocked down a career-high two three-pointers and finished with a season-high 17 points vs. TSU.
 
Senior Dillon Avare has hit 11 three-pointers in his two career games vs. UT Martin.
 
With Jackson Davis (out for the season) and Dujuanta Weaver not playing, the short-handed Colonels used their 16th different starting lineup of the season vs. Tennessee State.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
UT Martin (8-17, 3-9 OVC) has lost three straight coming into Thursday's showdown.
 
The Skyhawks are paced by Matthew Butler, who is averaging 16.0 points and 2.9 assists-per-game.
 
This is the 48th all-time meeting between EKU and UT Martin. The Colonels lead the series, 28-19, and defeated the Skyhawks, 78-70, on Jan. 11 in Martin.
