RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team stayed hot on Sunday afternoon, rolling past visiting IUPUI, 3-1, for its third consecutive victory.
Like in the win over Ball State on Friday, redshirt freshman
Sarah Owusu provided the Colonels with an early spark. In the sixth minute, she took a pass from junior
Erin Torrence and finished with her left foot in the upper left corner of the net, making it 1-0 Colonels.
Senior
Bailly Bounds added to Eastern's lead in the 57
th minute, scoring her first goal of the season to make it 2-0. Torrence was also credited with an assist on that score.
IUPUI (1-2) responded with a goal of its own less than a minute later; however, Owusu fired back with a much-needed insurance score in the 61
st minute, giving EKU some breathing room with a 3-1 advantage. Senior
Idalys Rea earned her second assist of the season on Owusu's second goal of the day.
"Today wasn't our best game, but we're proud of the girls for getting through this stretch of games," head coach
Nick Flohre said. "Playing three games in six days isn't easy, and coming out of it with three wins is something we're very happy about."
EKU dominated the game statistically, outshooting IUPUI, 17-8, and attempting eight corner kicks to the Jaguars' one. Bounds led all players in the game with four shots, three of which were on frame. Torrence fired three shots.

Katie Shaffer played all 90 minutes on the backline, spearheading another strong Colonel defensive effort.
Freshman goalkeeper
Zoe Aguirre played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves in the victory.
Owusu became the 10
th Colonel ever to score two goals in a game on Sunday, while Torrence became the ninth Colonel to record a pair of assists in a single game.
EKU returns to action on Friday, August 31, when the Colonels travel to Huntington, West Virginia to take on Marshall at 7 p.m.
