RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team dropped its Ohio Valley Conference opener to SIUE, 2-1, on Friday afternoon.
The Colonels (4-5-0, 0-1-0 OVC) jumped out to a quick lead, as junior
Erin Torrence scored her third goal of the year in the 12
th minute to make it 1-0. Redshirt freshman
Sarah Owusu recorded her first assist of the year on the play.
However, SIUE (2-4-0, 1-0-0 OVC) rallied in the second half. Courtney Benning scored the equalizer in the 56
th minute, and Amanda DiNardo added the game-winner in the 79
th minute to cap the comeback.
The Cougars outshot the Colonels, 16-8, on the day.
Owusu paced EKU with three shots in the game, one of which was on frame.
Freshman goalkeeper
Zoe Aguirre made two saves in the loss.
Senior
Kacy Eckley and sophomore
Katie Shaffer played all 90 minutes on the Colonel backline.
EKU will try to bounce back on Sunday when the Colonels host Eastern Illinois at 1:00 p.m.
