RICHMOND, Ky. – Catie Kaifes posted a career-best 18 points to go along with eight rebounds, but the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team fell to Tennessee-Martin, 87-61, on Thursday night in at McBrayer Arena. Â

UTM (12-4, 4-1 OVC) opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to extend it lead to 29-18 with 6:56 remaining in the first half, and the Skyhawks never looked back.

Bria Bass answered with a 5-0 run of her own to cut the lead to 29-23, with 5:11 remaining in the second stanza. But the Colonels never got closer than that.

EKU (2-14, 0-5 OVC) and the Skyhawks traded baskets for most of the first quarter, and the Colonels trailed only 22-18 after the first 10 minutes of play.

Shay Solomon had 13 points, six assists and five rebounds. Bass posted 12 points with eight rebounds and two assists.
Teri Goodlett chipped in 11 points of her own.

The Skyhawks were led by Chelsea Perry, who had a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds. Emanye Robertson posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Brittni Moore chipped in 11 points.

Eastern shot 35 percent from the field. Tennessee-Martin shot 45 percent from the field. The Colonels got out-rebounded 45-36 on the night.

Eastern returns to the court Saturday at McBrayer Arena when they take on Southeast Missouri. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
