RICHMOND, Ky. – Shay Solomon posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, but the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team fell to Southeast Missouri, 52-42, on Saturday night at McBrayer Arena. Â

SEMO (8-9, 3-3 OVC) closed the game on an 11-2 run to pull away from the Colonels in the final minutes.

EKU (2-15, 0-6 OVC) opened the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run and cut the Redhawk lead to 41-40 after a jumper by Solomon with 5:31 remaining in the game. But the Colonels would not get any closer.

The Redhawks started the game on a 7-0 run after a lay-up by Kennedi Allen with 7:47 left in the opening stanza. Eastern responded with a 10-3 run of its own to tie the game at 13-13 with 1:42 left in the opening quarter.

The two teams traded baskets for most of the second quarter and EKU went into halftime trailing by five, 30-25.

Solomon knocked down a three from the right wing to cut the Redhawk lead to four, 37-33 with 3:10 remaining in the third quarter.

Catie Kaifes had 10 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Teri Goodlett pitched in eight points of her own.

The Redhawks were led by Tesia Thompson, who had a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jocelyn Taylor chipped in 11 points.

Eastern shot 26 percent from the field. Southeast Missouri shot 40 percent from the field. Â

Eastern returns to the court Thursday at Berea College when the Colonels take on Jacksonville State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
