Strong Final Round Pushes EKU To Fourth, Kristinsdottir Finishes Second

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir placed second and the Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team finished fourth at the Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford.
 
Kristinsdottir began play on Monday with a 1-under round of 71 before closing out the day with a 1-over 73 in round two.  On Tuesday, she shot a final round even-par 72 for a 54-hole total of 216 (E).  She was one shot behind individual champion Ellen Hume (215) of Charleston Southern.
 
As a team, Eastern's final round 301 was its best of the tournament, by six strokes, and propelled the Colonels from seventh to fourth place.  EKU finished with a three-round total of 919.
 
Savannah College of Art & Design (903) placed first by seven shots over Samford (910).  USC Upstate (913) was third, six strokes in front of Eastern Kentucky.  EKU finished ahead of such teams as Charleston Southern (5th), Appalachian State (8th), Wofford (11th), UNC Asheville (14th) and The Citadel (16th).
 
The 16-team event was contested at the par 72, 6,054-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.
 
Vilma Efraimsson (230) tied for 21st overall.  Mikayla Groonwald (237) tied for 42nd and Elisa Orduna Shackleton (240) tied for 50th.
 
The Colonels have concluded the fall portion of their 2019-20 schedule.  The team will be back in action on Feb. 10-11 at the FAU Winter Warm-Up hosted by Florida Atlantic University at Osprey Point Golf Club in Boca Raton.
