RICHMOND, Ky. – Head Coach Mike Whitson and the Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team announced the addition of Swedish native Axel Nordborg.

Nordborg will join the team in the fall of 2019.

Axel placed third in his club championship after shooting rounds of 72, 68 and 74 for a three-day total of 214.

He shot a bogey free 67 (4-under) at the Teen Tour Elite at Falkoping Golf Course. He had a sixth place finish at the Campeonato de Casstellion with rounds of 76, 69, 73 and 75 on the contest. He won a qualifier for the Swedish Junior National Championship shooting a 69.

"I am excited to add Axel to our team next year.  This young man has been a pleasure to get to know," Whitson said. "Axel has had an outstanding junior career and his transition into college golf will be quick and successful.  Axel is strong, with good fundamentals and I think he will compete for playing time right away in August."

Nordborg won at the Swedish national team high school open. His club finished third in the Swedish Junior Championship team event.
