EKU Softball Sweeps A Pair Of Contests Against Jacksonville State On Saturday In Richmond

RICHMOND, Ky. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University softball team swept a doubleheader against rival Jacksonville State University on Saturday in Richmond.

Eastern Kentucky (14-6, 6-2 OVC) took game one, 6-3, in nine innings before taking game two 13-4 in five innings.
 
The Colonels wasted no time in game one taking the lead over Jacksonville State.
 
Sammi Miller singled up the middle and Ariyana Miranda singled through the left side to put runners on first and second with no one out. Carly Robinson followed with a walk to load the bases in the bottom of the first. Vianna Barron brought home the first run of the game with an RBI walk to give Eastern the early 1-0 lead. Mollie Paulick brought home two more runs with a sacrifice fly in the right center gap to give EKU the early 3-0 lead.
 
Jacksonville State (4-13, 3-5 OVC) started chipping away in the third inning.  
 
Keeli Bobbitt got things started in the top of the third after reaching via a Colonel error. Savannah Sudduth followed with a single down the right field line and advanced to second on the throw to third to put runners on second and third with no one out. Jada Terry brought home Bobbitt was a sacrifice fly to cut into the Eastern lead, 3-1.
 
JSU tied it up in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Lauren Hunt got things started with a single through the left side for the Gamecocks. After a Bobbitt walk put runners on first and second with no one out, Sudduth's sacrifice bunt moved Hunt and Bobbitt into scoring position. With two outs, Terry singled through the left side to bring home two runs and tie the game at 3-3.
 
The two teams traded zeros the rest of the way until the ninth inning.
 
Eastern had the winning run in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings, and finally took advantage in the ninth.
 
Miller walked and Miranda singled in the bottom of the ninth to put runners on first and second with one out. That set up the Robinson heroics, as she sent the 2-1 pitch over the right field fence for a walk-off three-run home run to give Eastern the 6-3 win.
 
Miranda went 3-for-5 with two runs. Robinson went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
 
Tori Peterson (6-0) picked up the win in the circle for the Colonels tossing four and one-third innings in relief allowing one hit and striking out four.

In game two, Eastern scored two in the first, four in the second, three in the third and four more in the fourth to cruise past Jacksonville State.
 
The first four batters of the game reached for the Colonels to take the early 1-0 lead over Jacksonville State on a bases loaded walk by Jasmine Miller. Miranda scored the second run of the inning on a wild pitch to give EKU a 2-0 lead after one inning.
 
Miranda Lopez led off the second inning with a double off the left field wall to get things started. After a Jaelyn Sanders hit by pitch and a Sammi Miller walk loaded the bases for the Colonels in the second inning. Miranda singled to right field to bring home two and give Eastern Kentucky a 4-0 lead. Sammi Miller scored on a fielder's choice by Robinson and Lou Bowers brought in the fourth run of the inning on a RBI ground out to give the Colonels a 6-0 lead after two innings.
 
JSU got two unearned runs back in the top of the third to cut into the lead, but Eastern answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Robinson to give EKU a 9-2 lead over the Gamecocks.
 
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning Sammi Miller doubled into the left center gap clearing the bases to give Eastern a 12-3 lead. Jasmine Miller brought home Sammi Miller with a RBI single to left field.
 
Jacksonville State scored once in the fourth and fifth innings.
 
Miranda went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Sammi Miller went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Robinson chipped in 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBIs.
 
Peterson started in the circle for the Colonels in game two tossing three innings allowing one run and striking out one. Peterson picked up both wins in the circle on the day.
 
Eastern looks for the series sweep against Jacksonville State tomorrow at Gertrude Hood Field. First pitch against the Gamecocks is scheduled for 1 p.m.
