MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Eastern Kentucky is in seventh place after the first round of the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Championship on Sunday at The Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

Andreas Nielsen is tied for fourth after an opening round 3-under 69. He is just one shot behind three players tied for first.

As a team, EKU carded a first round 301 (+13). The Colonels are five shots behind sixth place Morehead State and six shots in front of eighth place Austin Peay.

The OVC Championship is being contested on the Fighting Joe course. For round one, the course played to 7,147 yards with a par of 72.

Southern Illinois Edwardsville (283) has a one-shot lead over Belmont (284) after the first 18 holes of play. Tennessee Tech (285) is two shots back. Tennessee-Martin (286) is three behind.

Jacksonville State (293) is fifth and Morehead State (296) is sixth. Austin Peay (307) is eighth. Murray State (309) is ninth. Eastern Illinois (311) and Tennessee State (314) rounded out the field in 10th and 11th.

Eastern Kentucky will begin teeing off for the second round at 9:40 a.m. ET on Monday. EKU will be paired with Austin Peay and Murray State.

Nielsen torched the first nine holes, carding three birdies and six pars, and made the turn at 3-under. He shot par on each of the first three holes of the back nine before mixing in a bogey and a birdie over the final six to finish 3-under.

Markus Lindgren are tied for 32nd overall after shooting rounds of 77 (+5).Â

The Shoals is home to two 18-hole championship courses and lies between the Wheeler and Wilson dams on the Tennessee River. Â The Fighting Joe course at The Shoals was the first Trail course to break 8,000 yards.Â
