GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's and men's cross country teams both finished second to the host Paladins at the Furman Invitational on Saturday morning.
The women's team placed second with 50 points. The Colonels were led by the performance of senior
Saskia Pingpank, who finished ninth out of 48 competitors, covering the 5K course in a time of 17:50.4.
Fellow senior
Beighley Ayers was 10
th overall and second on the team with a time of 18:01.1 Juniors
Katy Chapman (12
th / 18:13.1),
Anouk van Gils (13
th / 18:23.7) and
Abbie Schoenherr (15
th / 19:02.0) rounded out EKU's scoring five for the day.
Furman won the women's race with 15 points.
The EKU men scored 44 points at the meet. Senior
Jackson Siddall paced the Colonels, placing sixth out of 65 runners with a 5K time of 14:18.3.
Sophomore
Charles Kipchumba was not far behind, finishing seventh overall in a time of 14:20.8. Redshirt junior
Joan Tapias (ninth / 14:25.4), freshman
Ahmed Sayf Kadri (10
th / 14:25.9) and junior
Pedro García-Palencia (12
th / 14:30.6) rounded out the Colonels' top five.
Furman also won the men's race with 15 points.
The cross country teams return to action Friday, October 1 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.
