Final Results

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky's men's golf team finished fifth at the 2021 EKU Intercollegiate on Saturday at the University Club at Arlington.
 
The Colonels combined for a final round 6-over 286 and had a three-round total of 850 (+10).  Western Carolina (825) won the event by 11 shots over Dayton (836).  Jacksonville State (838) was third and Morehead State (844) was fourth.
 
Newcomer Lake Leroux led EKU and tied for sixth overall with a 54-hole total of 208 (-2).  The Wichita State transfer shot rounds of 69 (-1), 67 (-3) and 72 (+2).
 
Jake Peacock of Western Carolina captured the individual medalist honors with a 10-under total of 200.  Kyle Schmidt (-8) of Dayton placed second.
 
Eastern Kentucky finished one shot in front of Marshall (851) and seven strokes ahead of two teams tied for seventh – fellow ASUN Conference member Bellarmine (858) and Purdue Fort Wayne (858).
 
Redshirt freshman Joe Benton tied for 22nd overall for the Colonels.  He shot rounds of 74, 67 and 72 for a total of 213 (+3).  Senior Willis Gaer (214) tied for 27th at 4-over.  Gaer and newcomer Francesco Guarneri had EKU's best rounds of the day on Saturday, both firing 1-over 71.
 
The University Club at Arlington played to 6,653 yards with a par of 70. 
 
The Colonels will return to action on Sept. 17-18 at Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind.
