EKU Hosts Western Kentucky Thursday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The "Battle of the Bluegrass" resumes when EKU hosts Western Kentucky on Thursday.
 
The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.

There will be a student-tailgate with a live DJ on Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Alumni Coliseum parking lot.  FREE t-shirts will be given to students.
 
Camp In The Coliseum will be held Wednesday night for students and include a camp out, a pep rally, a 3-point contest, a cornhole tournament, bingo and movies.

The daily Kentucky Sports Radio (KSR) Show will air live from Baptist Health Arena from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday.  Students and fans are invited to sit in the stands during the show.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  WKU leads the all-time series 116-44.
 
-  Last season, EKU hit a Diddle Arena record 18 three-pointers, but Western held on for an 85-80 victory in Bowling Green.  Cooper Robb scored 21 points.  He went 7-of-14 from 3-point range.  Michael Moreno had 14 points.  Devontae Blanton finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.  Dayvion McKnight led all players with 22 points for Western Kentucky.
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky began the season with a 137-52 victory over Miami (Ohio)-Middletown on Monday.  Seven players scored in double figures for the Colonels.
 
-  Bowling Green, Kentucky native Turner Buttry made his collegiate debut and scored 19 points while hitting four 3-pointers.  Junior college transfer John Ukomadu also scored 19 points in his EKU debut.  The JUCO All-American was 9-for-10 from the field.
 
-  The Colonels handed out 34 assists against Middletown, tying the program record.
 
-  Moreno finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
 
-  EKU had 24 steals and Middletown turned the ball over 35 times.  The Colonels had a 56-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
-  Sophomore DaShawn Jackson scored a career-best 16 points.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  This will be the season-opener for the Hilltoppers, who have been picked to finish at or near the top of the Conference USA standings.  WKU has appeared on some preseason top-25 polls.   
 
-  Four starters return for a team that went 19-13 last season.
 
-  McKnight, a junior guard, averaged 16 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists while shooting 47 percent from the field in 2021-22.
 
-  Among the team's seven newcomers are transfers from Boise State, Kentucky, Indiana and Georgia State.
 
-  Dontaie Allen came off the bench to lead the Hilltoppers with 18 points in an 88-68 exhibition game victory over Georgetown College on Saturday.
