LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky Golf Association named its 2022 Player of the Year Award recipients on Tuesday morning, EKU's
Mary Keene Marrs was selected as the states' top female.
"This honor means a lot to me," said Marrs. "I have worked very hard this year both in the gym and on the course. I am very pleased to see how my hard work has paid off this season with solid finishes in both the Women's State Amateur and Women's State Open. I am very grateful for my family and my coaches who have encouraged me pushed me to get to this point. 2022 was a great year and I am looking forward to working even harder this upcoming year for an even better 2023 season!"
Marrs has appeared three times for the Colonels in her inaugural season in maroon at the Johnie Imes Invitational (Missouri), Lady Redwolves Classic (Arkansas State), and the Mercer Invite.
The freshman from Lexington, Ky. finished her opening round in Arkansas for par (72), to amount to her season-low three-round score of 230 earning a T68th placement.
Over the summer heading into her freshman campaign, Mary was the runner-up in the Kentucky Women's Open, reached the semifinals of the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Women's Amateur, and posted top-5 placements in the Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur and Amateur Stroke Play Championship.
Mary earned first-team all-state honors as a senior last year at Lexington Christian Academy, in six years as an Eagle she was a member of two KHSAA State Championship and five All-A State Championship squads.
From seventh grade to this summer, Marrs won over 40 combined Kentucky PGA Junior Tour, HJGT, GolfWeek Junior Tour, AJGA, and high school golf tournaments. Earning as high as high of a state ranking as No. 2 in her class.
