VALDOSTA, Ga. –
Eastern Kentucky will play in its first ASUN Conference Championship starting Sunday in Valdosta, Georgia.

The three-day, 54-hole championship will be contested on the par 72, 6,213-yard course at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

EKU has finished among the top three teams at each of the last eight Ohio Valley Conference Championships, including first in 2013, 2015 and 2016.  The Colonels were runners-up in 2014, 2017, 2019 and 2021.

The first round of the 2022 ASUN Championship will begin at 8 a.m. ET on Sunday.  The Colonels will begin teeing off at 9:30 a.m. ET.  The 11-team field includes: Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, North Alabama, North Florida and Stetson.

North Florida is ranked 48th in the nation and Kennesaw State is ranked 75th.  Four teams are ranked between 98 and 110 in the nation – Jacksonville State at No. 98, Central Arkansas at No. 104, EKU at No. 107 and Lipscomb at No. 110.  Florida Gulf Coast (129), Jacksonville (150) and Stetson (151) are also ranked among the top-200 teams.

Created by Davis Love III Designs, Kinderlou Forest opened in April 2004, serving as host to six PGA Nationwide Tour events and two PGA Web.com events in 10 years.  The South Georgia Classic was one of the largest events on the tour, with one of the richest purses on the PGA qualifying circuit.  In an area known for flat terrain, the topography of Kinderlou Forest is unusual for the region.  Undulating hills lend a unique element not found in southern Georgia, and the signature No. 4 with its deep, all natural ravine is one of the most challenging, yet beautiful, holes on the course.

Competing for Eastern Kentucky are graduate students Vilma Efraimsson and Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir, juniors Maddie Hensley and Elisa Orduna Shackleton and sophomore Rylea Marcum.

Kristinsdottir is first in the ASUN with a 71.76 stroke average and leads the conference in tournament wins (3).  She is a 5-time ASUN Golfer of the Week.  The Reykjavik, Iceland native has nine top-5 performances in 11 events.  Kristinsdottir shot a program record 204 (-12) at Missouri's Johnie Imes Invitational, including a career-low round of 66.

Marcum is second in the ASUN with two tournament wins.  She is second on team, and 18th in the league, with 74.42 stroke average.  The Georgetown, Kentucky native shot a program record 64 at the Lady Red Wolves Classic, which is also the lowest round by an ASUN golfer this season.  Marcum has five top-10 performances.

Shackleton is third on the team with a 74.97 stroke average and has four top-10 finishes this season.  Efraimsson carries a 76.67 average.  Hensley has a 76.83 average.

Under fourth-year head coach Mandy Moore the Colonels finished in the top 10 in nine of their 11 events this season, including first place finishes at the Redbird Invitational, the Lady Redwolves Classic, the Terrier Intercollegiate, the First Coast Classic and the Colonel Classic.  The five tournament wins tied the program single season record.

As a team, EKU has a 296.39 stroke average, which is on pace to break the program record of 298.55 set during the 2018-19 season.
