Eight Colonels Record A Hit As EKU Completes Sweep Of JSU

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Second baseman Jalen Jones finished 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored to propel the Colonels to an 11-10 series finale win, and a three game sweep of Jacksonville State.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third, the Colonels (32-15, 17-7 ASUN) tied the game with a pair of RBI singles from Max Williams and Logan Thomason.

After Jacksonville State (21-25, 14-10 ASUN) regained the lead in the fourth, Jones smacked a 2-1 pitch into right field to bring Ron Franklin Jr. and Matthew Corlew across the plate.  Four pitches later, the second baseman scored after Williams singled to right to make it 5-4.

Gamecock left fielder Mason Maners retook the lead for the visitors once more after he belted his first of two home runs, a grand slam in the fifth to put JSU ahead 8-5.  EKU then rallied in the bottom of the inning as Charlie Ludwick and Conner Davis singled and walked before Corlew hit a two-out single to score both.

After reliever Brock Blanton held JSU scoreless in the sixth, Eastern Kentucky catcher Will King shot a two-RBI single into the right-center gap to highlight a four-run sixth inning as the Colonels took the lead for good, 11-8.

Closer Will Brian entered the game with two outs in the eighth and shut the door on Jacksonville State to record his national-leading 14th save.

Thomason finished 4-for-5 with an RBI, one stolen base and one run scored.  Starting pitcher Niko Leontarakis struck out four over two and one-third innings.  Williams finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and scored one run.

All nine EKU batters scored and eight recorded at least one hit.

Maners finished 2-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs for the Gamecocks.
