Colonels Set To Host Jax State On Thursday

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University will host Jacksonville State on Thursday at Baptist Health Arena.
 
The game, sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, or worldwide on EKUSports.com.

INSIDE THE SERIES
-  The Colonels lead the all-time series with Jacksonville State 24-14.  EKU is 15-3 against the Gamecocks in Richmond.  JSU has won two straight, but the Colonels have won three of the last five. 
 
-  In the last meeting, Michael Moreno hit six 3-pointers and scored 23 points, but EKU lost at first-place Jacksonville State, 81-68, on Feb. 23, 2022.  Moreno finished the game 8-of-16 from the field, grabbed six rebounds and had two steals.  EKU shot 38 percent from the field while JSU hit on 58 percent of its shots.  The Colonels had 10 steals, leading to 14 Gamecock turnovers.  Darian Adams led all players with 27 points, on 11-of-18 shooting, for Jacksonville State.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (14-9, 7-3 ASUN) downed in-state rival Bellarmine, 73-63, on Saturday to take sole possession of third place in the ASUN Conference.
 
-  The duo of Devontae Blanton (22) and Leland Walker (20) combined for 42 points in the win over the Knights.
 
-  Blanton is sixth in the ASUN in scoring (15.61 ppg), second in field goal percentage (46.4 percent) and seventh in rebounding (6.65 rpg).
 
-  In two games against Bellarmine, Tayshawn Comer dished out 11 assists and did not have a turnover in a total of 48 minutes on the court.  Comer is seventh in the conference with 3.78 assists per game and seventh in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.98).
 
-  The Colonels shot 50 percent from the field against Bellarmine on Saturday.
 
Isaiah Cozart is just six blocks away from matching Nick Mayo's program single season record of 55 set in 2018-19.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Jacksonville State is 10-13 overall and 3-7 in league games, but the Gamecocks are coming off a weekend sweep of Lipscomb and Austin Peay at home.  Since starting ASUN play 0-4, JSU is 3-3.   
 
-  Demaree King, a 6-foot senior guard, is the team's top scorer (14.6 ppg) and assists leader (3.09 apg).  Former Morehead State guard Skyelar Potter is contributing 13.6 points per game.  Juwan Perdue, a 6-6 junior forward, is Jacksonville State's top rebounder at 6.9 boards per game.
 
-  The Gamecocks average just 69 points per game, but have held their opponents to 69.9 points per contest.
 
-  In both games combined against Lipscomb and Austin Peay, JSU shot 51 percent from the field and were +20 in rebounding.
 
-  King led Jacksonville State with 26 points and five assists against Lipscomb, and 15 points and four assists against Austin Peay.
