Colonels Conclude Regular Season at North Florida

Last Matchup Before ASUN Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – To conclude the regular season, EKU women's basketball (17-13, 10-7 ASUN) will head to North Florida (7-19, 4-12 ASUN) on Wednesday, March 1 inside UNF Arena.
 
Wednesday's contest with the Ospreys is slated for a 7:00 p.m. ET tip on ESPN+. Fans can also tune in to the radio broadcast, 92.5 WEKY, with Wes Chandler on the call.
 
With a 17-13 record throughout the 2022-23 season, EKU has secured the first winning season since 2015-16 and the first in the Greg Todd era.
 
The Colonels are coming off a 1-1 week which saw the team cruise past Queens 95-62 on Thursday, EKU's largest away conference win in over 26 years, and a tough loss to Liberty on Saturday.
 
Antwainette Walker picked up ASUN Player of the Week honors after scoring 28 points against Queens and Liberty, totaling 56 points in the two-game stretch.
 
EKU clinched a placement in the 2023 ASUN Women's Basketball Championship from March 4-11. As of Monday, Feb. 27, EKU is slated to travel to Austin Peay in a four vs. five seed battle.
 
Eastern Kentucky Notes
- EKU head coach Greg Todd sits six wins away from 300 in his career.
- Eastern Kentucky University sits inside the top-50 in the country in; scoring offense (24th), assists per game, turnover margin, made threes per game, assist/turnover ratio, forced turnovers, free throw percentage, and 3-point attempts.
- Guard Walker remains in the national spotlight after being tabbed to both the 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, through the National Basketball Hall of Fame and the WBCA, and the 2023 Dawn Staley Award, recognizing the top guards in women's college basketball. 
- With 71 points in her last three games, Walker continues to climb the EKU and ASUN record single season record books, sitting inside the top-5 of EKU history in made field goals and points, top-20 in ASUN history in made field goals/points.
- Walker leads the ASUN in double-doubles (14), made field goals (238), points (591), points per game (21.1), rebounds (265), rebounds per game (9.5), steals (67), and steals per game (2.4). Top-20 in the NCAA in made field goals, points per game, field goal attempts, points, and double-doubles.
- Point guard Alice Recanati recently passed Gay and Lisa Goodin on the EKU all-time career assists list at 377, she needs seven to pass Cheryl Jones for fourth in program history.
Ariel Kirkwood and Emma Hacker recorded two and one blocks, respectively, for 8th in EKU program history in career blocks 
- Graduate Danielle Rainey recorded the first triple-double in program history earlier in the season against Alice Lloyd with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.

All-Time vs. UNF
- Wednesday's game is the fourth meeting between EKU and North Florida dating back to 2014. UNF leads the all-time series 2-1.
- EKU defeated North Florida 71-51 earlier in the season on Jan. 21, 2023, Walker led the Colonels with 25 points going 12-of-17 from the floor and 11 rebounds. 
- Rainey followed with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
 
Scouting the Ospreys
- UNF is led by Darrick Gibbs, who is in his eighth season with a record of 95-137.
- North Florida enters Wednesday's game losers of six of its last seven games. UNF's last win came on Feb. 18 at home against Kennesaw State, 84-76.
- Lyric Swann, a junior from Elkridge, Md., leads North Florida with 14.1 points and 35 minutes per game.
- Swann led UNF with 10 points last time out against EKU.
- Emma Broermann, a 6-foot-3 forward from Ohio, leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.7 per contest.
