EKU Renews Rivalry with Austin Peay on Saturday

First Meeting Between the Colonels and Govs Since 2021

RICHMOND, Ky. – Looking to bounce back after a loss to Lipscomb on Thursday that snapped a 10-game home winning streak, EKU (13-10, 6-4 ASUN) hosts Austin Peay (13-7, 8-2 ASUN) on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 4:30 p.m. ET, renewing a 48-year-old rivalry between the two programs inside Baptist Health Arena.
 
Saturday is "We Salute Her" game in Richmond, EKU Athletics would like to offer two free tickets to all first responders, active military, or retired veterans. Additional discounted tickets can be purchased on the Colonels' website
 
Fans not able to make Saturday's contest can view the game on ESPN+ or tune in to 92.5 WEKY with Wes Chandler on the call.
 
Antwainette Walker led the Colonels against Lipscomb with 18 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Thursday's tallies marked 21-consecutive games in double-figure scoring for Walker, her 17th game leading EKU in rebounding, and her 4th game leading the team in assists on the season.
 
On Tuesday, Walker was named a finalist for the 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award by the National Basketball Hall of Fame and the WBCA recognizing the top shooting guards in women's college basketball. Voting opens up on Friday, Feb. 3 on hoophallawards.com. 
 
Alice Recanati followed Walker's performance adding 16 points in the loss, the Bergamo, Italy product has scored 10-or-more points in five of her last eight games.

Eastern Kentucky Notes
- EKU head coach Greg Todd sits at 20-7 (.740) all-time inside Baptist Health Arena. Todd remains 10 wins away from 300 in his career.
- Recanati recorded five assists in a 83-70 win at Stetson, moving her to 8th all time in program history in career assists (345).
Emma Hacker and Ariel Kirkwood have both moved into the EKU all-time career blocks list this season, Hacker remains at 10th with 65 career blocks, Kirkwood needs three rejections to move into 8th all-time at 71.
Danielle Rainey recorded the first triple-double in EKU program history with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists in the Colonels 110-49 win over Alice Lloyd College.

All-Time vs. Austin Peay
- Saturday's contest renews a 48-year rivalry between EKU and APSU going back to 1973.
- EKU owns a 49-37 all-time record over Austin Peay, including a 28-11 mark at home.
- APSU claimed the last meeting between the two programs by a score of 65-49 on Feb. 22, 2021.
 
Scouting the Govs
- APSU is led by head coach Brittany Young, who in two seasons at the helm of the program has a record of 33-20 (.623).
- Austin Peay is in its first season as a member institution of the ASUN, the Govs have a 13-7 record through 20 contests and has an 8-2 conference record.
- The Govs dropped tough non-conference games on the road to power-5 Vanderbilt and Duke but earned wins over Chattanooga, Murray State, and UNC Asheville. 
- In ASUN play, APSU has obtained victories against Queens, Stetson, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Central Arkansas, North Alabama, and Bellarmine.
- Shamarre Hale, a graduate center from Chicago, leads Austin Peay with 11.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Hale has nine games in double-figure scoring and three games with 10-or-more boards.
- Point Guard Mariah Adams leads the Govs with 4.3 assists per contest and is second in the ASUN in free throw percentage (.857).
- The Govs earned notoriety as one of the stingiest defenses in the ASUN, holding teams to only 56.2 points per game (29th NCAA) and 27.1 percent from the three point line (27th NCAA).
