ATLANTA – Eastern Kentucky University redshirt-senior guard Antwainette Walker was named ASUN Conference Newcomer of the Week, marking the first weekly award given to EKU this season, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
 
Walker, who was recently named to the 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Mid-Season Top 10 list by the National Basketball Hall of Fame and the WBCA, averaged 25.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 53.8 percent from the floor in two home losses.
 
Voting for the Ann Meyers Shooting Guard of the Year Award is now available on hoophallawards.com presented by Dell Technologies, fans can vote once per day until voting ends in March. 
 
The Lisle, Ill. native recorded a career-high 33 points going 13-of-21 (.619) from the floor in an 82-69 loss to rival Austin Peay. Walker added 11 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season, placing her in the top-15 in the NCAA.
 
As of Monday, Feb. 6, Walker sixth in the nation in made field goals (192), 12th in points per game (21.4), 13th in points (471), and top-30 in four other statistical categories.
 
Walker leads the ASUN in double-doubles, made field goals, field goal attempts, made free throws, points, points per game, rebounds, rebounds per game, steals, and steals per game.
 
EKU (13-11, 6-5 ASUN) remains in sole possession of fifth place in the ASUN standings heading into week six of conference play, three games back of Liberty, Austin Peay, and Lipscomb who are tied for second place.
 
The Colonels hit the road to take on Kennesaw State for the second time this season on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET. EKU will round out the road trip facing Jacksonville State for the first time this season on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5:00 p.m. ET, both games can be found on ESPN+ and 92.5 WEKY.
