ATLANTA – EKU women's basketball forward
Emma Hacker was selected to the ASUN Conference Winter Winners for Life Team, announced by the league office from its headquarters on Friday.
"'Emma is an exemplary student-athlete both in the classroom and on the court, and we are fortunate she is a Colonel," said EKU's Senior Woman Administrator
Rachel Slone. "She is deserving of this recognition."
Hacker, a senior from Frenchburg, Ky., just completed her final year of college basketball and helped the Colonels to an 18-14 overall record, EKU's best finish in over seven seasons and its second-straight appearance in the ASUN Championship quarterfinals.
She appeared in all 32 of EKU's games highlighted by a career night at Boston College scoring 22 points connecting on 7-of-15 shots and 4-of-6 threes, adding seven rebounds and a career-high five blocks.
The Eastern Kentucky product totaled eight games with 10 or more points, averaging 6.8 points per game, and departs the program inside the top 10 in single season blocks at 32.
Off the court, Emma boasted a 3.8 GPA while pursuing a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences with a Pre-Med Concentration and a minor in Chemistry. After graduating from EKU, Hacker plans on attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has been accepted into the top pharmacy school in the country. Hacker's efforts in the classroom earned her placements to the Colonel Scholar Award, Dean's List, and President's List several times throughout her career.
Hacker also served as the Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on campus while regularly volunteering her time in the Richmond community as a virtual reader at Model Laboratory School, basketball camp counselor, various community service events, and working bone marrow drives with non-profit Be the Match.
The team is composed of one student-athlete from all 14 institutions and honors those who display excellence on and off the playing surface. The Winners for Life team honors a campus citizen that is respected as one who shares and/or demonstrates the ASUN Core Values: Education, Honesty, Student-Athlete Experience, Fairness, Health, Ambition, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Leadership, Responsibility, and Sportsmanship.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have competed in the current academic year in an ASUN-sponsored sport and be in good academic standing at his/her university.
