Five EKU Baseball Players Earn Academic Recognition

RICHMOND, Ky. – Five EKU baseball players were recognized among the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.  Brock Blanton, Roderick Criss II, Will King, Isaac Milburn and Bryce Travis were chosen to the 2023 Academic All-District® Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).
 
As Academic All-District® honorees, the five will advance to the Academic All-America® ballot.  First, second and third team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 7.
 
Blanton carries a 3.66 grade-point-average while majoring in general business.  The sophomore right-hander is 3-0 this season with three saves and a 4.56 ERA.  In 25 and two-thirds innings, the Bainbridge, Ohio native has struck out 27.
 
Criss has a 3.71 GPA and is majoring in sport management.  The senior outfielder from Kansas City, Missouri is hitting .279 this season with 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and 42 runs scored.
 
King has a 3.51 GPA while majoring in general studies.  On the field, the junior catcher from New York, New York is hitting .341 with 12 home runs, 45 RBIs and 44 runs.
 
Milburn has a 3.63 GPA and is majoring in construction management.  The sophomore lefty from Lexington, Kentucky has a 4-3 record on the mound this season.  He has struck out 55 in a team-high 58 and one-third innings.
 
Travis has compiled a 3.72 GPA while seeking a major in biomedical science with a minor in chemistry.  A junior left-handed pitcher from Richmond, Kentucky, Travis leads the team with 25 appearances this season.  He is 1-2 with a 4.72 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 26 and two-thirds innings.
 
To be nominated for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must carry at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point-average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career.  No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution.
