RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University golf, in conjunction with EKU's PGM Program, are set to host the annual Tom "Geo" Giacchini Golf Classic on Friday, October 13th at Boone's Trace National Golf Club.
"Tom and I became friends when he and his teammates arrived in Richmond as members of the EKU Golf team. Tom loved EKU and, most importantly, the golf team. He became my volunteer assistant coach and was a big part of our success during those years," said former EKU head coach Pat Stephens. "Tom was known to those who loved him as Geo. Our entire team had a close bond with him. It was so obvious he cared about each one of them, and they felt the same. Geo made his mark on the EKU Golf Program, and I was proud to have him not only as my Assistant Coach but also as a dear friend. There was not a bigger fan of EKU Golf than Tom Giachini."
Sign-ups for the 3rd Annual Tom Giachinni Golf Classic are available now on
Bidpal.net. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the event begins with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Four player teams begin at $500 and includes round of golf, lunch, dinner, tee gifts, two drink tickets (Per person), EKU Homecoming Football tickets and tailgating tickets. Individual entries begin at $125 and includes round of golf, lunch, dinner, and tee gifts.
"Dad was an influence on the golf industry throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky," said Stephanie Giacchini, Tom's daughter. "He encouraged me to pursue a career in the golf business, that's where I made the decision to join the EKU PGA Golf Management Program, where he supported EKU PGM and the staff. He had an incredible influence on every community he was apart of, people are better for having known my dad. We can't wait to hear your Geo stories at the G Classic in October."
Hole sponsorships are also available beginning at just $50 and will include a famous Geo quote to be displayed throughout the course.
The "G Classic" is set to run alongside EKU's Homecoming Weekend, as the Colonels take on Tarleton State on the following Saturday at 3 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to stay after the round for an awards ceremony and to share stories about Geo while reminiscing with your former teammates and Geo's family & friends. All participants are also welcome to stay and socialize in the Clubhouse Bar & Grill once the event concludes.
Proceeds from the event will go to support both the EKU Geo Colonel Golf and Learning Center Transformation Fund and the EKU PGM Program Geo Fund.
