TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A dramatic come-from-behind victory was the order of the day for Eastern Kentucky University's
Anders Larson, taking the individual win at the Seminole Intercollegiate.
As a team, EKU finished tied for seventh at 29-over, moving up 10 spots on the final day, shooting an even par 288.
Larson earned the first collegiate win of his career by one stroke, finishing seven-under for the tournament after starting the final round five shots back of the lead.
Ending the tournament with 209 strokes, Larson carded a final round 66 (-6) featuring five birdies and an eagle.
"Standing on my 18th tee and seeing my teammates and coaches behind the green is really what college golf is all about," said Larson following the win. "We were blessed with the opportunity today to go out and compete on a beautiful golf course, and we did just that. We shot the second-best round of the day and moved up ten spots, which says a lot about our team as a whole. Any time you're able to find yourself in contention individually is always a great feeling. To finally break through at an event like this is pretty special and is something I'll remember for the rest of my life, no doubt."
The senior led all competitors in scoring average on par-fours, going five-under for the tournament, and was tied for the most birdies overall with 15.
Larson becomes the first Colonel to earn an individual win outside of Richmond since Willis Gaer at the Jackrabbit Invitational in 2022.
"What an outstanding tournament for Anders," said head coach
Pat Stephens. "His first collegiate win at a great tournament and an outstanding venue in Seminole Legacy Golf Course. Anders played extremely well in the last tournament at George Mason's event at Mid Pines, missing out on a playoff for first place by only a shot. Anders is playing with a lot of confidence, and I look forward to more wins from him before the season is up.
The team made a big jump today, too, overall, from 17th to being tied for seventh."
Zach Watterson was the next highest finishing Colonel, tied for 45
th, shooting 12-over for the three rounds.
Justin Begley,
Hristo Yanakiev, and
Jameson Corbin finished tied for 66
th, 86
th, and 100
th, respectively, with Corbin shooting an even par 72 on the final day.
The Colonels' season continues on March 30 at the Memphis Intercollegiate.
