Women’s Basketball Announces Exhibition Against Reigning DIII Champion Transylvania

First Exhibition Announced

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball program today announced a pre-season exhibition game against Transylvania, who enters the season as reigning NCAA Division III National Champions, on Thursday, November 2 at Baptist Health Arena.

November's pre-season clash against Transy will serve as EKU's annual "Fan Day" at the arena, where fans can participate in a post-game autograph session with the team, yard games on the concourse, photos with an EKU backdrop, and the Colonel mascot in attendance.

Fans can purchase tickets starting at just $5 for general admission seating online here, doors will open one hour prior to tipoff.

"It is an honor and very rare feat to host a defending national champion in Transylvania University," said EKU head coach Greg Todd. "We are expecting a large crowd for both teams and a great atmosphere for an exhibition game. Transylvania is a very special place, and I am very thankful for the opportunity they gave me for my first head college coaching position. We can't wait to interact with our community on Fan Day as we host such a good program at Baptist Health Arena."

Todd began his NCAA coaching career at Transylvania and led the Pioneers to 157 wins and three appearances in the NCAA DIII Tournament from 2006-2014. He had four 20-win seasons, including a 26-3 overall, 17-1 conference mark in his final year with the program.

During his time in Lexington, Todd also led the program to three regular season conference titles, two tournament championships and was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Women's Basketball Coach of the Year four times.

EKU's matchup with Transylvania will be the first look at the 2023-24 roster that returned four members off last year's squad and added nine newcomers (Seven transfers, two freshmen).

The Colonels are coming off an 18-win season last year that ended in the ASUN Conference quarterfinals. EKU has reached the quarterfinals in both its season as a member of the league.

As of Thursday, Sept. 14, Transylvania becomes the fourth opponent announced to EKU's non-conference schedule which includes two opponents who are set to begin the season in the top-25 in Tennessee, Utah and perennial NCAA DII favorite, Alaska Anchorage.

Fans can purchase season tickets starting at just $25 on the Colonels' website, or by calling the EKU Ticket Office at 859-622-2122 or purchasing in-person at the box office from 9-5 p.m.
