Colonels Play Host To Governors On Saturday In Match-Up Of ASUN Unbeatens

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University continues its two-game conference home stand on Saturday against Austin Peay.  Both teams opened conference play with wins on Thursday.

THE COLONELS
-  EKU knocked off Lipscomb, 80-72, at home on Thursday night to improve to 5-9 overall.
 
-  Leland Walker finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a steal against Lipscomb.  He tied his career-high with three 3-pointers, going 3-for-6 from behind the arc.  Walker is ninth in the ASUN in scoring (15 ppg), fifth in free throw percentage (85.1 percent), fifth in assists (4.4 apg) and seventh in field goal percentage (42.9 percent).
 
-  All five starters scored 10 or more points against the Bisons.  In addition to Walker, Devontae Blanton had 15 points, Isaiah Cozart had 14, Michael Moreno finished with 10 and Tayshawn Comer scored 10.
 
-  EKU turned the ball over a season-low six times on Thursday.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Austin Peay sits at 8-8 and has won five of its last seven after picking up an 84-68 win at Bellarmine on Thursday.  The Governors also have wins over Missouri Valley opponents Murray State (53-49) and Southern Illinois (70-68).   
 
- Newcomer Demarcus Sharp has done everything for the Governors.  The 6-foot-3 guard leads the team in scoring (17.3 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg), assists (5.0 apg), steals (2.5 spg) and blocks (1.0 bpg).  He is first in the ASUN in steals, first in defensive rebounds (6.4 rpg), first in minutes played (36.9), second in scoring, fourth in assists, fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), sixth in rebounding, eighth in field goal percentage (42.1 percent) and ninth in blocks.
 
-  Sharp finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists, one turnover and one steal in 40 minutes of play at Bellarmine on Thursday.
 
-  Ja'Monta Black, a 6-foot-4 guard, is second on the team in scoring at 12 2 points per game.  He has shot 41 percent from the field while leading the Governors in 3-pointers made (52) and attempted (132).
 
INSIDE THE MATCH-UP
-  EKU is second in the ASUN in scoring with 82.07 points per game.  Austin Peay is first with 65.56 points allowed per game.  EKU allows 79.29 points per game and APSU scores 68.31 points per contest, 12th in the ASUN.
 
-  Austin Peay is first in the ASUN and 19th in the nation in 3-point defense, limiting teams to 27.9 percent shooting from deep.  EKU has hit 32.7 percent of its 3-point attempts and shot 46 percent (11-for-24) in Thursday's win over Lipscomb.
 
-  The Governors are 19th in the nation with just 9.6 turnovers per game.  APSU is second in the ASUN and 47th in the NCAA in turnover margin (+3.19).  The Colonels have forced their opponents into 13.5 turnovers per game.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Austin Peay leads the all-time series 65-56, but the Colonels have won three of the last four against the Governors.  EKU is 31-24 against Austin Peay in games played in Richmond.
 
-  EKU held Austin Peay scoreless for the final 5:46 and closed the game on a 12-0 run to earn a 74-59 win on Jan. 21, 2023 in Clarksville, Tennessee.  APSU never led in the game.  Blanton had 20 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals.  Cozart added 12 points, six rebounds and was credited with two blocks.  Sean Durugordon led Austin Peay with 17 points.  The Colonels hit on only 2-of-14 from 3-point range, but out-rebounded the Govs 40-27.
