BEREA, Ky. – Coming off a season-opening loss against the No. 7 ranked LSU Lady Tigers on the road, the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team returns home to face Tennessee State on Friday night at the Seabury Center on the campus of Berea College.

The Colonels opened the 2024-25 season on Thursday night in Baton Rouge and took a tough loss to No. 7 LSU behind excellent performances from future WNBA Draft picks Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow, who finished with 25 and 20 points, respectively.
EKU was led by guards

Kaitlyn Costner, and
Liz Freihofer who all recorded a team-high nine points. Freihofer earned high praise from the SEC Network crew and LSU head coach Kim Mulkey after knocking down three three-pointers in her collegiate debut.
Thursday's game will be homecoming for EKU head coach
Greg Todd, who is a Berea native and 1978 graduate of Berea Community High School – where he holds the school record in points (1,623) and rebounds (966). Todd began his head coaching career with Berea Community and led the Lady Pirates to 166 wins over seven seasons that includes a KHSAA Sweet 16 appearance in 1998. He was inducted to the Berea Community Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.

TSU enters Thursday's game with a 1-0 record after taking down Cumberland (Tenn.) by a score of 72-62 in its season opener in Nashville. The Lady Tigers were led offensively by freshman guard Somah Kamara who scored 19 points and went 8-of-14 from the floor. Five other Lady Tigers ended in double-figures.
History vs. Tennessee State
Thursday's game in Berea marks the 72nd meeting between TSU and EKU, who are long-time Ohio Valley Conference foes. EKU leads the all-time series 45-26 dating back to 1988 and have won the last three meetings over the Lady Tigers since 2021. Last season EKU defeated TSU by a score of 79-69 in Nashville – the first meeting between the two programs since the Colonels left the OVC in 2021.
