EKU Plays At Austin Peay Before Returning Home To Host In-State Rival Bellarmine On Saturday

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Colonels will play at Austin Peay on Thursday before returning home to host in-state rival Bellarmine on Saturday at Baptist Health Arena.
 
EKU will hold its 2023-24 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship ring ceremony and unveil the championship banner before Saturday's 7 p.m. ET contest against the Knights.
 
Thursday's game will begin at 8 p.m. ET.  Both games will air live on ESPN+.  Saturday's game will also air live over the air and on area cable systems on WBON-TV, providing coverage from Richmond to West Virginia.  The live radio broadcasts of the games are available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, or worldwide on EKUSports.com.

THE COLONELS
-  Despite making 14 steals and holding a 22-9 edge in points off turnovers, EKU (8-9, 2-2 ASUN) fell to Jacksonville, 82-75, on Saturday.
 
-  In his last five games, George Kimble III is averaging 24.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.2 steals.  The sophomore leads the ASUN and is fifth in the nation with 3.0 steals per game this season.
 
-  Montavious Myrick posted his second straight double-double when he finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds against Jacksonville.  He set new career-highs for points, rebounds and minutes (32).
 
-  Over the last six games, EKU has shot 81 percent from the free throw line and is now fifth in the conference with a 71 percent free throw percentage for the season.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
-  Austin Peay is 6-11 overall and 1-3 in ASUN games.  The Colonels and Governors share two common non-conference opponents this season.  EKU beat East Tennessee (82-78) and Southern Illinois (77-72) while APSU lost to those teams by scores of 79-57 and 65-60.  Austin Peay has lost three straight since opening league play with a 97-89 win over North Florida.  
 
- LJ Thomas, a 6-foot-2 junior guard who played two seasons at North Carolina State, leads the Govs in scoring (16.8 ppg), rebounds (5.1 rpg), assists (3.1 apg) and steals (1.40 spg).  As a team, Austin Peay averages just 65.6 points per game, the lowest in the conference.
 
-  Bellarmine sits at 3-14 overall and 0-4 in ASUN games heading into its Thursday night game at home against Lipscomb.  The Knights have lost seven straight since beating Brescia, 94-66, on Dec. 7.
 
-  Jack Karasinski, a 6-foot-7 junior forward who played two seasons at William & Mary, leads Bellarmine in scoring at 16.2 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field for the season.  The Knights are second in the ASUN in field goal percentage (46 percent), but have allowed their opponents to shoot 49 percent from the field, the highest in the conference.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Austin Peay leads the all-time series 66-57.  The Governors are 39-20 in games played in Clarksville.  The Colonels have won three of the past four meetings.  APSU won the most recent matchup, 83-79, on Feb. 28, 2024 in Clarksville.  Devontae Blanton scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in that game.  EKU led by six, 47-41, before the Governors went on a 12-2 run to change the game.  The Colonels struggled from behind the arc, making just 4-of-16.  The Governors out-rebounded EKU 39-35.  Sai Witt had a game-best 26 points for Austin Peay.
 
-  EKU leads the series with Bellarmine 7-2 and has won three straight over the Knights.  The Colonels are 6-0 against Bellarmine in games played in Richmond.  EKU won the most recent meeting, 75-65, on Feb. 17, 2024 in Louisville.  The Colonels limited Bellarmine to 38 percent shooting and 28 points in the second half in that game.  Isaiah Cozart led the Colonels with 17 points and added 10 rebounds.  Michael Moreno also recorded a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Bash Wieland had a game-best 19 points for Bellarmine.
