MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team is set to face its oldest rival, Morehead State, for the 104th time on Wednesday at Johnson Arena.
Tipoff is scheduled for noon ET. Fans can watch the game live on ESPN+ or listen for free on the Colonels All-Access page, with Wes Chandler and Kent Miller on the call.
Tickets for those making the trip across I-64 East are available online or at the door for around $12.
EKU (5-1) enters the match up riding a four-game winning streak, most recently defeating Midway University, 107-66, at home.
Five Colonels scored in double figures in the win, as EKU poured in 54 points in the paint, shot over 50 percent from the field, and grabbed 59 rebounds. The Colonels also knocked down 15 three-pointers, the third-most in a single game in program history.
Sophomore guard
Liz Freihofer led the charge and was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week for the second time in her career after scoring 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting with five made threes.
For the week, she averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. As of Tuesday, Freihofer ranks top 10 in the NCAA in total made threes (22) and threes per game (3.67).
As a team, EKU continues to turn heads with its early-season performance, entering Wednesday ranked in the top 100 nationally in more than 17 statistical categories.
The Colonels rank among the national leaders in threes per game (6th), three-point attempts per game (11th), assist-to-turnover ratio (18th), assists per game (25th), defensive rebounds per game (29th), and field-goal percentage defense (30th).
Scouting Morehead State
Morehead State (2-3) is under first-year head coach Ashton Feldhaus. The Eagles are coming off a 78-64 home win over South Carolina Upstate. MSU has faced two AP Top 25 opponents this year, suffering losses to No. 20 Kentucky (75-59) and No. 21 Louisville (96-49), both on the road.
Senior guard Laura Toffali leads MSU with 13.2 points per game and has recorded two 20-point performances this season against Bellarmine and USC Upstate.
Series History
Wednesday's contest marks the 104th meeting between EKU and Morehead State in a series that began in 1972. The programs competed as conference foes for 50 years before EKU departed the Ohio Valley Conference for the ASUN in 2021.
EKU leads the all-time series 58-45 and has won six straight against the Eagles, including a 64-55 victory in Richmond during the 2022-23 season.
