Men Finish Third, Women Seventh-Place at ASUN Indoor Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University track & field team turned in a number of medal performances on Thursday and Friday as they competed in the ASUN Indoor Championships.

The Colonel men ended the two-day meet in third-place with a total of 94 points while the women came in seventh-place at 49 points. Central Arkansas claimed both the men's and women's titles with 213.5 and 154.5 points, respectively.

The squad collected 11 medals over the meet, led by Justine Kipkoech with a gold and a bronze. Kipkoech set a new conference meet record in the men's 5000m, clocking a time of 13:58.92 en route to a gold medal. Mario Priego Montero also collected bronze in the event with a time of 14:03.89.

Kipkoech also claimed a bronze medal in the men's 3000m along with a silver medal performance from Taha Er Raouy for a 2-3 Colonel finish in the event. Er Raouy record a time of 7:53.43 - the 78th-best time in Division I this season - while Kipkoech finished with a 7:56.34.

Elsewhere on the track, Kristian Imroth delivered a dramatic finish in the men's mile to claim a gold medal. Making the pass for the lead on the final straightaway of the race, Imroth finished with a time of 4:04.32 while fellow Colonel Aniol Borras finished a few steps behind in third with a 4:05.29. The time is a new personal best for Imroth.
 

The Colonel women also delivered medals on the track as Bahiya El Arfaoui brought home another bronze for EKU in the women's 800m with a time of 2:07.18. Edna Chelulei grabbed a bronze medal as well in the women's 5000m, clocking a 16:18.63 for her first podium in the Maroon & White.

Success also came in the throwing events for EKU, seeing a gold, silver, and bronze apiece. Senda Garma secured the bronze medal in the women's weight throw with a toss of 16.84m (55'-3") for her podium.

Matthew See and Lariah Wooden brought home silver and gold in the men's and women's shot put, respectively. See recorded a new personal best of 16.24m (53'-3.5") for second with the men while Wooden continued her stellar debut year with a throw of 14.94m (49'-0.25") for the first conference championship of her career.

The Colonels await the final lists of qualifiers for the NCAA Indoor Championships to see who will be making the trip to Virginia Beach to compete for national glory. The final list of meet participants will be available on Tuesday, Mar. 4 on NCAA.com.
