HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team finished in fifth place at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Tuesday afternoon.
The Colonels were led by freshman
Imogen Jessen who finished tied for 11
th at 11-over for the three-round tournament as the Colonels shot 58-over as a team.
"We are disappointed to not play as well as we wanted to, but we hung in there in some tough conditions the past couple of days," said head coach
Mandy Moore. "Imogen had a great tournament, and we had some good stretches of solid golf from everyone at different times. We are sad that our season ends here but I think the team learned a lot this week that will help us in the future."
Jessen opened the tournament in strong fashion carding a 71 (-1) tying her career-best round as a Colonel.
In that opening round, she recorded five birdies on her way to recording the seventh most at the tournament.
The Colonels' best round of the tournament came on day one shooting nine-over as a team.
As a team, EKU performed well on the par-4s with a scoring average of 4.33, tied with Lipscomb for the best average at the tournament.
Three shots back of Jessen for the tournament was
Dili Sitanonth who finished tied for 19
th at 14-over.
The Thai golfer's best round was a 75 (+3) that she shot in the first and second rounds of the tournament earning three birdies in each.
Freshman
Karra Tucker ended the tournament tied for 33
rd at 22-over saving her best for the final round as she shot a 76 (+4) that featured one of only three eagles of the tournament on Hampton Cove's par 5, 17
th.
Her final round performance saw her move up 15 places on the leaderboard.
Mary Keene Marrs moved up four places on the final day to finish tied for 39
th at 25-over with her best round coming in the opening 18 holes as she shot a 77 (+5) recording three birdies.
Claira Beth Ramsey, shot five-over on the final day of competition, competing as a substitute for
Elizabeth Tucci.
Tucci was +12 after the first two rounds of the tournament that included shooting a 74 (+2) to open the tournament, a season's best.
