WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. / CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – It was a record-breaking two days for the Eastern Kentucky University track & field teams at the Wake Forest Invitational and Virginia Challenge on Thursday and Friday.
Vicody Chepngetich set the pace for the Colonels on Thursday night at Wake Forest, finishing second in the women's 10,000-meter race with a time of 33:35.26 in her second-ever race at EKU.
Her time sees her now 20
th in the East Region this season and second all-time in the EKU record books for the event.
In the men's open 5,000m on Thursday,
Keeton Thornsberry and
Ty Blair both set personal bests with times of 14:08.77 and 14:16.22, finishing first and fourth in the section, respectively.
Three more school records fell on Friday in Winston-Salem, beginning with
Bahiya El Arfaoui and
Aniol Borras breaking the women's and men's 1,500m records.
El Arfaoui ran a time of 4:07.31 in the women's invite section, finishing third with the fifth fastest time in the country this season.
On the men's side, Borras finished in ninth with a time of 3:40.60 claiming the school record and currently the 28
th fastest time in the nation.
Borras was joined by
Taha Er Raouy, who ran a time of 3:41.24, the 37
th-best time this outdoor season, finishing the race in 14
th, and Jan Badia who set a personal record with a time of 3:41.35.
Edna Chelulei then set a new record in the women's 5,000m with a time of 15:43.67, shattering her previous best time of 16:18.63.
The impressive performance saw her finish third in the race and in the top 30 in the country so far in 2025.
Steeple U had an impressive night as well on Friday, beginning with
Karin Gosek in the women's 3,000m steeplechase at Wake Forest as she set a personal best of 9:58.73.
The time is the second fastest in school history and places her 14
th in the NCAA so far this season.
At the Virginia Challenge,
Kristian Imroth continued his impressive start to the outdoor season with a time of 8:30.66, a new personal best for the British runner as he was the second highest collegiate finisher in the race.
The Colonels will next compete at the historic Penn Relays beginning April 24.
