JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Taha Er Raouy got the Eastern Kentucky University men's track & field team off to a strong start at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East First Round on Wednesday night, advancing to the quarterfinals in the men's 1,500 meters.
After a multi-hour rain delay pushed the start of the 1,500m to 10:25 p.m., Er Raouy remained unfazed as he ran a personal best time of 3:40.73 to finish in third in his heat with the second fastest time in program history.
On the night, Er Raouy ran the 9
th fastest time across all four first-round heats.
The finish sees the Moroccan through to Friday's quarterfinals, where he will look to punch his ticket to the National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
In the second heat,
Aniol Borras finished his heat in 8
th with a time of 3:45.52, while Jan Badia closed out his Colonel career with a time of 3:45.89, finishing 10
th in his heat.
In the 10,000m, Mario Priego finished in 20
th with a time of 29:38.73.
EKU's women's team will hit the track tomorrow, beginning with the 1,500m at 3 p.m.
