RICHMOND, Ky. – Three Colonels are in Eugene, Oregon, this week for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, with the four-day event beginning tomorrow.
Steeple U will be represented in Wednesday's 3,000m steeplechase semifinal by
Kristian Imroth after the Brit finished third in his quarterfinal heat in Jacksonville with a time of 8:30.80.
The time was Imroth's second fastest this season, his season's best of 8:30.66 sees him have the 11
th fastest time in the country this outdoor season.
Thursday sees two Colonels in
Bahiya El Arfaoui and
Edna Chelulei hitting the track in the 1,500m semifinal and 10,000m final, respectively.
Arfaoui punched her ticket to Oregon in historic fashion at the NCAA East First Rounds with a qualifying time of 4:05.20, the fifth fastest time in NCAA history. Her historic time broke her own school record in the 1,500m and is the second fastest time this season.
Chelulei will compete in both the 10,000m and 5,000m finals on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
In the 10K, she finished in 7
th in the East semifinal with a time of 32:50.68, while in the 5K, the Kenyan native finished in a blistering time of 15:30.56, shattering her own school record.
Chelulei is the first Colonel on the women's side to ever compete in the 10,000m and 5,000m finals at the National Championships in program history.
