TUCSON, Ariz. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team has announced its first opponent of the 2025–26 season, will travel to play the University of Arizona on December 10 at McKale Memorial Center.
Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST (11 a.m. MST), with the game expected to be broadcasted on ESPN+ or the ESPN family of networks.
This game marks EKU's first appearance in the state of Arizona since 2005, when the Colonels faced No. 25-ranked and 5-seeded Arizona State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Tempe.
Arizona finished the 2024–25 season with a 19–14 overall record and a 10–8 mark in its inaugural year as a member of the Big 12 Conference. The Wildcats earned a berth in the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament (WBIT), where they narrowly lost to Northern Arizona, 71–69, at home.
The Wildcats will be led by first-year head coach Becky Burke, a 2012 graduate of the University of Louisville. As a player, Burke helped guide the Cardinals to three NCAA Tournament appearances and has since amassed 170 coaching victories at the collegiate level.
EKU is coming off back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 2001–02, as well as consecutive appearances in its conference tournament semifinals for the first time in eight years. Also, a total of three Colonels earned all-conference honors with a unanimous selection to the all-freshman team last season. Since 2022, EKU's 61 wins are the second most among NCAA Division I programs in Kentucky.
