HUMACAO, PUERTO RICO – Anders Larson of Eastern Kentucky University's men's golf team turned in a historic performance to close out the Palmas del Mar Collegiate on Tuesday with a final round 64 (-8), tying the second-lowest individual round ever recorded by a Colonel.
The performance saw Larson move up 37 total places on the leaderboard to finish tied for 20
th at 214 strokes (-2).
On the round, Larson recorded nine birdies, including a stretch of four in a row on holes two through five.
The senior from Pine Island, Minnesota, becomes just the fifth Colonel ever to shoot 64 in a round, only one shot behind the program record of 63 by Erik Lindwall in 2016.
As a team, EKU finished tied for 12
th at 14-over with a final round of seven-under as a team.
Justin Begley also shot in the red for the final two days of the tournament, carding a pair of 70s (-2) on Monday and Tuesday, helping him finish tied for 33
rd at one-over for the tournament.
Zach Watterson finished with his best round of the tournament, shooting an even-par 72 end the spring opener in 59
th at seven-over.
Rounding out the scores for EKU were
Hristo Yanakiev and
Jameson Corbin, who finished tied for 70
th and 78
th, respectively, at 10 and 14-over.
Competing as an individual was
Jackson Finney, who finished in 84
th at 21-over.
EKU will next compete at the Babygrande Donald Ross Collegiate hosted by George Mason beginning on March 9.
