OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Eastern Kentucky University's
Pedro Moreno is on the Brooks Wallace Award watch list, the College Baseball Foundation announced recently. The award honors the top shortstop in college baseball.

The initial watch list includes the top-100 shortstops in the country.Â

The award is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

Moreno has started all 21 games at shortstop for the Colonels this season. The senior from Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela is hitting .293 with 21 runs, eight doubles, three triples, seven stolen bases and 16 RBIs. Moreno has a .463 slugging percentage and a .410 on-base percentage. He leads the team in runs, doubles, triples and extra-base hits (11).

In the field, Moreno has not committed an error in 75 chances.

Moreno ranks seventh in the Atlantic Sun Conference in doubles, ninth in steals and is tied for first in triples.

EKU will play a 3-game series at North Alabama starting on Friday. The opener is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
