Women’s Basketball Adds Former MAC Freshman of the Year, USF Transfer Kirsten Lewis-Williams for 2026-27

Highly Touted Guard from North Carolina

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team has added 5-foot-10 guard Kirsten Lewis-Williams from the transfer portal, head coach Greg Todd announced Monday.

Lewis-Williams, a transfer from the University of South Florida and former Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year at the University at Buffalo, becomes EKU's first portal addition this offseason and brings the Colonels' 2026-27 roster to eight players.

"Kirsten fits our program and who we are, she's tough, experienced and competitive," said Todd. "Adding to a core that already knows how to win gives us another level of depth and flexibility on both ends of the floor. We expect her to make a significant impact as we continue to compete for conference championships."

Last season at South Florida, Lewis-Williams averaged 2.7 points and 1.6 rebounds while making eight starts in 30 appearances. She started eight consecutive games from Nov. 26 to Dec. 30 and logged minutes against nationally ranked opponents, including Connecticut, Vanderbilt and South Carolina.

She scored in double figures twice during the 2025-26 season, posting a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double against Harvard on Nov. 26 before adding a season-high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting against Houston Christian on Dec. 5.

Prior to her time at South Florida, Lewis-Williams spent two seasons at Buffalo from 2023-25, where she earned Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2024, Second Team All-MAC recognition in 2025, and helped lead the Bulls to a WNIT championship.

As a sophomore in 2024-25, she started all 36 games and averaged 13.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. She scored in double figures 27 times, recorded three double-doubles and posted a career-high 29 points against Miami (Ohio).

Lewis-Williams capped the season by helping Buffalo to the WNIT title, scoring 18 points with six rebounds and five assists in an 88-84 victory over Troy in the championship game.

During her freshman season in 2023-24, she started all 33 games and averaged 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game while shooting 46 percent from the field (134-of-292). She earned MAC Freshman of the Year honors and scored a season-high 22 points against Akron on Feb. 17, 2024.

A native of Mooresville, North Carolina, Lewis-Williams was a four-time all-conference selection and two-time Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year at Lake Norman High School. As a senior, she averaged 20.6 points, 5.5 assists and 4.1 steals per game, leading her team to a 31-1 record and an appearance in the NCHSAA 4A State Championship game, where she recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds.

EKU captured the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season championship, the 11th conference championship in school history, and has posted three consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time as a program. Todd was named 2026 ASUN Coach of the Year and four Colonels earned all-conference honors, including two first team selections.

Lewis-Williams is scheduled to arrive on campus this summer and will begin offseason workouts.
