RICHMOND, Ky. – Brighter Jepchumba, Taha Er Raouy, and Hamish Murray swept the United Athletic Conference (UAC) weekly cross country awards on Tuesday, the league office announced.
 
Jepchumba was named the UAC Women's Runner and Freshman of the Week, while Er Raouy earned UAC Men's Runner of the Week honors and Murray took home UAC Men's Freshman of the Week honors.
 
Jepchumba won the women's championship race at the loaded John McNichols Invitational on Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana. The native of Uasingishu County, Kenya defeated a field of 230 runners and out-dueled Indiana freshman Katy Zang down the homestretch to take the victory.
 
Jepchumba's winning time of 19:14.0 broke the LaVern Gibson Championship Course 6K record, set by former Texas Tech national champion and Olympian  Sally Kipyego.
 
Er Raouy finished 21^st out of 269 competitors in the men's championship 8K race on Saturday in Terre Haute, clocking a time of 24:07.9.
 
His performance helped lead the EKU men to a 12^th place finish, ahead of nationally-ranked squads such as No. 24 Cal Baptist, No. 20 Georgia, No. 26 Louisville, and No. 23 Air Force.
 
Murray ran in the men's open race on Saturday at the John McNichols Invitational. He finished 22^nd out of 206 competitors, covering the 8K course in a time of 26:10.8.
 
The cross country Colonels have this weekend off before competing at the Live in Lou Classic on Saturday, Oct. 3.
