RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's cross country teams will face their first real test of the season when they compete at the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday morning in Terre Haute, Indiana.
 
The women's 6K Championship race will start at 8:30 a.m. ET, with the men's 8K Championship set to go off at 9:05 a.m. ET.
 
The meet is hosted by Indiana State. ISU's LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course will host the NCAA Championships this season on Nov. 21.
 
The EKU men – ranked No. 12 in the USTFCCCA Preseason National Poll – will face a loaded that field features 12 other nationally-ranked squads: No. 6 Colorado, No. 7 Northern Arizona, No. 9 BYU, No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 11 Washington State, No. 13 Syracuse, No. 16 Butler, No. 17 Michigan State, No. 19 Harvard, No. 20 Georgia, No. 23 Air Force, and No. 24 Cal Baptist.
 
The EKU men's team placed ninth at last year's NCAA Cross Country Championships, the best finish in program history. The Colonels return two All-Americans from that squad – Brian Kimutai (21^st at NCAAs) and Taha Er Raouy (30^th at NCAAs).
 
Sophomore Cosmas Kiprop is another returner from last year. He was named the UAC Men's Runner of the Week on Sept. 8 following his performance at the season-opening  EKU Invitational.
 
The EKU women will square off against nine nationally-ranked teams on Saturday morning, including No. 7 West Virginia, No. 8 Northern Arizona, No. 9 Stanford, No. 11 Northwestern, No. 14 Florida, No. 20 Utah, No. 21 Washington State, No. 22 Washington, and No. 25 Toledo.
 
The Colonel women were picked to win the UAC by league head coaches this season.
 
Edna Chelulei is EKU's top returner. She was an NCAA Cross Country Championships qualifier last season as an individual, and she went on to be a first team All-American in both the indoor and outdoor 5,000 meters.
 
Track All-American Brighter Jepchumba, as well as Morgan Kobylinski, Metrine Serem, and Ann Kiplagat will also be key contributors for the Colonels this season. Kiplagat was the UAC Women's Runner of the Week on Sept. 8 following her win at the EKU Invitational.
