A seven-run second inning propelled the Golden Eagles to a five-inning win in game one. Home runs by Holly Thomas and Kaleigh Gates highlighted the inning. Thomas hit a two-run shot to straight-away center field. Gates hit a solo shot over the left field fence.

Erin Luther drew a bases loaded walk in the third inning to get the Colonels on the board. Whitney Cummings added a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to cap the scoring for TTU.

Holly Thomas (5-6) allowed three hits, one run, walked six and struck out five to earn the win. Eastern used three pitchers, and all three allowed four or more runs.

In game two, Tennessee Tech jumped out to a 3-0 lead after four innings. Katie Betry had an RBI single in the first and Kimmie White drove in a pair with a single in the fourth.

The Colonels loaded the bases, including two bunt singles, with no outs in the bottom of the fifth. Shyenne Hussey drew a walk to push in EKU’s first run. With two outs, Kalyn Fox singled down the down the right field to score two runs and tie the game.

In the top of the seventh, Cassidy Skeen led off with a single through the left side. Two batters later, Cummings singled up the middle. A hit batter loaded the bases with one out for TTU. Betry followed with a single to right center to score what proved to be the winning run.

TTU starter Maddie Schmissrauter allowed one base runner in the bottom of the seventh before retiring the side. Schmissrauter (5-8) allowed eight hits, three earned runs and struck out three over seven innings. Freshman Brittany Mockbee (1-4) went the distance for Eastern. She allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out four.

Betry finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs for TTU. Hussey went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI for EKU.
