BOX SCORE
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team opened its OVC schedule with a 0-0 tie at Austin Peay Sunday afternoon at Morgan Bros. Field. The Colonels (3-6-1) outshot the Lady Govs 20-3 on the day, but were unable to convert any of their shots into scores.
“Every attacking player had a chance to put the game away, but no one did,” head coach Lindsay Basalyga said. “It’s all about accountability. Someone needs to step up and finish games, because the road in the OVC is only going to get tougher.”
Sophomore midfielder
Heather Bruce and freshman midfielder
Alex Hess led the Colonels with four shots apiece. Three of Hess’s shots were on goal.
“We executed a lot of the details we’ve been working on for the past month or so, we just couldn’t capitalize,” Bruce said. “We’re still undefeated in the conference, but we’re disappointed we didn’t come away with a win.”
Junior keeper
Stephanie Lynch played all 110 minutes of the game and made one save while recording her third shutout of the 2009 season.
“We gave up a lot of goals prior to the conference schedule, so we as a defense wanted to clamp down a little bit starting today,” senior defender
Eva Hollenberg said. “I think we did just that.”
The Lady Govs (1-8-2) were led by Jazzmine Chandler’s one shot on goal. Carly Newman played all 110 minutes in the net and recorded nine saves for APSU.
EKU will return to action on Friday, Oct. 2 when they host Tennessee Tech at EKU Soccer Field.
“We’re happy to get a point in the conference standings and we’re excited to finally be back home next weekend,” Basalyga said.
