Colonels Edge Morehead State in Women's Tennis, 4-3

Freshman Milena Poffo
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Freshman Milena Poffo earned the deciding point to help the Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis edge host Morehead State Tuesday afternoon, 4-3. With the win, the Colonels (11-10, 3-3 OVC) return to the .500 mark in conference play.

Sophomore Jessica Albuquerque (No. 1) outlasted Morehead State’s (10-10, 3-3) Alix Young in a 3.5-hour marathon to give the Colonels a slim 3-2 lead in singles. Poffo (No. 5) then battled back from one set down to clinch the victory for EKU.

“This match was just another example of how close all of the OVC teams are this year,” Eastern head coach Rob Oertel said. “There’s a very fine line for us in every conference match.”

Five of EKU’s six OVC matches have ended with a score of 4-3.

Eastern Kentucky concludes the regular season this weekend at Southeast Missouri (April 8) and Tennessee State (April 9).
