CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will end a three-game road stretch on Monday at Austin Peay.  The Lady Colonels are 1-1 in the first two games of the road swing.

In its last game, Eastern Kentucky (8-8, 4-2 OVC) was within a single point with 10 minutes left in the game before Morehead State used a 15-3 run to pull away for a 68-58 victory on Saturday.  Freshman Carla Booth and junior Jade Barber each finished with 14 points for the Lady Colonels (8-8, 4-2 OVC).  Booth also had six rebounds and three assists.

Eastern leads the series with Austin Peay 44-29, but the Lady Govs have won five of the last seven meetings, including a 66-63 win earlier in the season in Richmond.  EKU is 17-16 in games played in Clarksville.

In that first meeting of the season between the two teams, Eastern Kentucky turned the ball over nine times in the first six and a half minutes, trailed by 13 late in the first half, staged a second half comeback to take a seven-point lead, but couldn’t hold off Austin Peay on Jan. 2.

With a one-point lead, APSU’s Whitney Hanley connected on two free throws with 12 seconds left.  Booth got a good look at a tying three pointer with three seconds to go, but the ball didn’t fall through.  Hanley led all scorers with 24 points to go along with eight rebounds.  Meghan Bussaberger added 18 for the visitors.  Marie Carpenter led Eastern with 19 points.  EKU finished with 20 turnovers, compared to 16 for the Lady Govs.

APSU is 5-13 on the season and 2-3 in OVC games.  The Lady Govs were about to secure their third straight win before Jacksonville State knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer to steal a 74-73 victory in Clarksville on Saturday.

Hanley led APSU with a career-best 32 points on 12-for-21 shooting from the field, including 5-for-11 from deep.  Leslie Martinez added 12 points and a team-best eight rebounds.  Austin Peay allowed JSU to shoot 43 percent for the game, including 50 percent in the second half.  APSU lost the rebounding battle by 22 and gave up 23 offensive rebounds to the visitors.

Hanley leads the team with an average of 18.8 points per game.  No other Lady Govs scores more than 8.6 per game.
