RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team blanked rival Morehead State Tuesday afternoon, 7-0. The Colonels now stand at 12-6 overall and 5-0 in OVC action.
“This is a very coachable team and it shows in the improvement we’ve made from the beginning of the season to right now, especially in doubles,” EKU head coach
Rob Oertel said.
Freshmen
Melissa Gerritsen and
Kristina Labeja clinched the doubles point by holding off Morehead State’s No. 1 team, 8-6.
In singles, EKU won five of the six matches in straight sets. Freshman
Marcela Jimenez dropped just one game in the No. 6 contest.
Next up for Eastern Kentucky is an OVC road trip to Southeast Missouri (April 6) and UT Martin (April 7).
