LOS ANGELES – In the opening round of the 2012 NCAA women’s tennis championships, top-seeded UCLA defeated the Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team by a count of 4-0. The Colonels finish the season with a record of 18-7.
This was just the second ever appearance in the NCAA tournament for EKU. The Colonels also qualified for the national event back in 2009.
UCLA’s (22-2) line-up featured two doubles teamed ranked among the top-10 nationally as well as three singles players ranked in the top-100 nationally in the latest ITA rankings.
Eastern Kentucky started four freshmen and two sophomores in its starting line-up. The Colonels earned a spot in the NCAA tournament by winning the OVC regular season and tournament titles.
