EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team will enter next weekend’s Ohio Valley Conference tournament as prohibitive favorites after a 7-0 win over SIUE Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels (17-6, 10-0 OVC) only dropped one OVC individual singles match all season which happened on March 17 at Murray State.

“A special shout out has to go out to Amandine Faouzi for going undefeated [against OVC foes] at No. 1 singles this year,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said. “That is not an easy accomplishment.”

Faouzi, one of the favorites for OVC Player of the Year, downed SIUE’s Monique Krutak in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, junior Saioa Oscoz won her match at No. 3 singles without dropping a game.

This is the second straight year and third time in the last five years that Eastern Kentucky has won the OVC regular season title.

EKU will next take on the winner of No. 4 Eastern Illinois and No. 5 Austin Peay in the OVC tourney semifinals on Saturday, April 20 in Paducah, Ky.
